[ You wake to a comfortable silence, warmth and softness surrounding you. The room is dim, but a little light comes into the room. Should you check, the room has an ornate clock that tells you it is still early-- only a few minutes after seven in the morning. Although it should be no difficult task to assess that this room is unfamiliar to you in every way; your last memories will be a bit herder to focus in on. But the haze will gradually lift and you will be left with a few simple facts.

This bed-- this room is not your own. Nor is it the last place you were.

You are not alone. There are at least two other people sleeping in beds like yours in this room.

Now that you are awake it is time to explore. As you do you will realize just how many others there are in this building. Meet with them and you will probably soon realize none of them know any more than you do. Still-- considering the situation it may benefit you greatly to work together.

It is likely that you will see portraits of some familiarity positioned throughout the building as well as some confusing writing posted in each of your rooms as well as just outside of the Ballroom.

Looking around you will notice that you have practically full reign of the house-- with one exception. It would appear that right now the office is locked.

[Onii... San...?]

[Kiyo is very unused to being called an older brother... But introductions must be made.]

I am... Korekiyo Shinguji. I was called the Ultimate Anthropologist where I come from...

[ Well, he's actually using the term more formally than actually using it to refer to someone as a 'big brother'. ]

Shinguji-oniisan, then! [ Might as well be polite. ] But... "ultimate"? What's so ultimate about being an anthropologist?

[... That is true. Erm.]

... Well, I happen to be the best in my field at such a young age, so I was selected by the government to participate in the Ultimate Initiative. We get benefits such as scholarships and money to pay for travel. Very helpful in my case, since I travel frequently.

I see...

[ That's pretty surprising, since he's never heard of it before. ] So is this "Ultimate Initiative" just about the scholarships and money or is there more to it than that?

I believe we also got special voting privileges?

Special voting privileges? Like what?

I believe that is self-explanatory.

[Special voting privileges to vote in special political things.]

But let's talk about your experience as a detective. If you are not, in fact, 17 years old, you seem rather young for the job. Are you assisting a family member?

[ That doesn't seem self-explanatory at all, but okay. He won't dig his heels too deeply in this one. ]

Kogoro oji-san is a famous detective and I help him sometimes! [ Who might as well be family, you know? ] But I also learn a lot from Shinichi nii-chan, who's a famous high school detective. He's known as the Detective of the East and he's always busy solving difficult cases.

I see... You're not letting him take all the credit for your work, are you?

Of course not! [ He hit the nail on the head, but Conan's not going to admit to that. Besides, Conan is a good liar. ] Kogoro-ojisan is a really good detective, so there's no reason for me to put in any work for the cases he solves.

Hm...

[Okay, this is starting to sound way too familiar.]

You know, you happen to remind me of a classmate of mine. Saihara Shuichi. He claimed to be working as an apprentice for his uncle, yet he had been chosen as the Ultimate Detective. To receive such an honor as that requires great skill and talent, both of which he seems to underestimate greatly.

[He looks into Conan's eyes.] So what is the case with you, besides age? Do you doubt your talents, or is there some other issue behind your situation?

I don't doubt my talents. People don't exactly take children seriously, and I still have a lot to learn before I can become a great detective at all.

Ah, that makes a lot of sense.

In that case, I wish you luck in your endeavors.
