Mock Week

[ After the day before, with the reveal of the full extent of the rules and how the game works along with their hosts, the only thing everyone could do was have a meeting with alcohol and go to bed. And when awakened, everything is the same. It's still the large mansion, they're still locked inside, and there's still the idea that they have the choice to murder each other hanging over them. But now the mansion is free to explore to their hearts' content, save for the room under the stairs outside the mud room. All anyone can really do is just enjoy their week and hope for the best. ]

Sherlock Holmes films

Huh, he doesn't look like I remember him... [Eliza checked out the name of the movie, but that just makes her more confused.]

[holmesapprentice]

Maybe you watched a different version of the Holmes films. There's the silent films that were in the 1900s up to 1929, then the 1931 film series, then the 1939 film series, and then the films made by Guy Ritchie - which, to true Sherlockians, which is what Sherlock Holmes fans are called, are terrible, and various other films from 1967 to 2015. There were also several television version that were made, too, if you're familiar with those.

[Eliza only half-hears all of that, just looking confused.] Um...I mean the one I actually met. [Just...casually drops that fact here.] He's kind of a jerk though.

[holmesapprentice]

You can't meet Sherlock Holmes. He's not even real.

[telecosmetic]

He looked real enough. [She glances over at the screen again.] If there's so many versions of him, why can't there be a version of him that's real? Just because you see someone in a game or in a book doesn't mean they're not real somewhere else...

[holmesapprentice]

Because fiction is fiction. Maybe it was someone that took his name, but it definitely can't be the real Sherlock Holmes.

He's a detective, though! And he has an assistant named Watson and a brother named Mycroft! That has to be more than a coincidence, right? [She doesn't want to present the kid with the semi-existential horror of discovering you are somewhat fictional yet.]

[holmesapprentice]

There's the possibility that someone was a huge Holmes fan and named their two sons after the characters in the Sherlock Holmes series. After all, I was named Conan for the same reason.

[ He says this rather calm and smoothly. ] Besides, Watson is a pretty common last name.

[telecosmetic]

And they were a big enough fan to change their last names too? [There's a pause as she considers things.] Do they have any of the other movies here? [Maybe she'll recognize them. (Spoiler: She won't because they're from the BBC show.)]

[holmesapprentice]

It's possible. There are a lot of Holmes fanatics out there, especially in London.

[Eliza huffs a little.] What if we watched one of those movies and they looked just like the Holmes and Watson I remembered? Would that prove it?

[holmesapprentice]

That wouldn't prove anything. [ Besides the fact that you're delusional, but he won't say that. ]

[telecosmetic]

[She huffs again. She admittedly doesn't know much about the cases they've solved before, so it's not like she can use those to prove her point. After a bit, she just sits down in a seat.]

Well, maybe you'll get a chance to meet them. But I guess I'll check out whatever's going on in this film.
